wind

hands on the railing, i stood. it is one in the morning. from the twenty third storey i see the world lay sprawled beneath me. beads of orange luminiscence lined up in orderly rows; spreading in every direction. right in front of me is a building. in this unearthly hour all of its windows were darkened, save for the few whose curtains are lit by flickering splashes of colour most probably from television sets. on my right lies the sea. black like the sky. the haze that permeated the island has lifted for now, leaving me with a particularly sparkling view of everything around me. in fact, everything was in such stark contrast as compared to the past few weeks... a gentle, cool breeze touches gently at my skin. refreshing. but i prefer to hide in a less sober state...to be innocently unaware of things that are bothering me. i pivoted and headed back in the house. discomfort settled almost instantaneously with the sudden loss of that piercing breeze. as i entered in my brightly lit room, i was met with cheerful inspiring music from my computer speakers. i played the music as a feeble attempt to cheer myself up. i hear the words, the melody but i dun feel that coveted feeling of soaring spirits... on the table lay a mirror dumped unceremoniously on my haphazardly arranged table. and soon i found myself staring at a pair of bloodshot, russet eyes. the sandman has obviously been trying to tug at my eyes...but i think i can hold on for a while longer... and i saw nothing in these eyes. no ice, no fire, to tears...just a small, slightly distorted image of the hand held mirror. i do wonder... when will my reflection show, who i am inside...
