dsta scholarship interview and innovation workshop
let me first talk about the dsta scholarship interview. after a night of looking at what dsta does and reading up on highly recent news (news on the day itself), i went to bed and got woke up by my mommy at 8.47am. i was supposed to be at dsta by 10.45am and by my own calculations...i should just wake up at 9am sharp and i will haf sufficient time to do everything that i wanted. but noooooo my mom insisted that i wake up at 8.47 and so i did. anyway, she made a sandwich for me and i was off in no time...dreading the horrendous journey ahead...and of course, worrying about how i am going to answer their questions so that i leave a good impression and whatnot. and by the time i was at commonwealth station...i was close to hyperventilating...so i took a bus to DSTA for the first time in my life and i was so scared that i will get lost in that science park...you noe..the problem with all these scholarship stuff is that they are at the weirdest places. science park lah...MOE headquaters lah...etcetc. i wonder what will be A*STAR's surprise location which i have never heard of in my life. so once i alighted i checked my dying handphone and saw that is was 10.20 like that and oh goodness i was so early can... so i went to the reception and handed them my (thin) portfolio and went off to take a seat..i was so early..even hanwee was still waiting for them to call him to do stuff...and when he left the first time...he said..."its essay time" then i was like...oh.my.god. what kinda ESSAY THEY WANT!!!!!! and then he came back and said it was some crappy questions like what challenges singapore faced and 3 others and they are only given 20 minutes to write a essay. so i freaked out. but calmed down...and then i talked to some of the people there...stone...watch everyone go to those computers...and anxiously wait..thinking what the hell i should be writing...and then when the woman came to return my portfolio...i was so scared that she was gonna ask me to write essay...yah..but when she DID..i wasnt that paranoid..thank god. but the computer they use hor...DAMN irritating to use lor..not used to the keyboard at all...and its some weird wordpad program...and i sit down...look at all the questions and figured that i only know how to do the lame challenges that singapore face. and i did a very very sloppy job. no time to properly develope my arguement...there is hardly any arguement at all in fact...and when the woman came and said...you have 2 more minutes..i freaked and started having typos at every word. and that really annoyed me...coupled with the fact that those RJ people are producing sentences with the ease of breathing air. their essays are much better strucutred...HAHA...(its a good skill to be able to type a few words without looking at the keyboard or computer and let your eyes wander to the computer next to you). so i had a pathetic one sentence conclusion coz i typed that sentence when the woman came and said "please type your last sentence". anyway...it sucked...but no matter...happy to get over with it...and next stage is the interview..after a very long wait. and the interview itself was...short and considerably painless. no long awkward pauses that make me look like a retard at least..but i did make clear the fact that i am weird...i said it outright. not sure if i should take the risk of saying that but i DID. and i carn change it now so TOO bad. if u carn handle weird people, you wun get creative ideas. so my impression of the interviewers is that the lady who talks to me most of the time is rather nice lah..smile and stuff...but the other one is just sitting there...looking all stern and indifferent. but still haf to smile at her...ah well...their questions are rather...ok lah...but i think i din really express myself as well as i would haf liked. oh wells. just learn lor i guess...after the interview i had to wait AGAIN to do this funny motivational test which test what motivates you and what not. and like most of these sorta stuff...its repetitive. so it gets annoying after a while. by the time everyting was over and i left the building, it was 12 40.pm. so i spent like...more than 2 hours there...grrrrr and i had to rush down to boonlay for that STUPID workshop which i dunno WHY i signed up for.
so. i totally skipped like half of the day and i went there like some headless chicken blindly following everyone around and hardly knowing what the hell they want from us. then the first thing they did when i arrived was to leave. to go jurong point. TO GO GROCERY SHOPPING for the old folks in the old folks home. and then after wrapping the stuff up, we left the library and went to the home. and then do those kinda community involvement programme stuff...entertain those people...talk to them...get dao-ed by them...etcetc. and finally, WE WENT HOME!!!! YAY and apparently we haf to do some prototype of i do not know what on wednesday and tomolo haf to do some montage about what? I DUNNO. so i am still some blur person.ok...i haf absolutely no idea why i signed up for such a totally lame thing...DAMN it
