i've been really really lazy about updating my blog recently... just doesnt seem that fun anymore even though there isnt much to do.

anyway, i've been back to hong kong and now i'm in singapore again... it's depressing just typing that. but i suppose i have a lot to say. for example, i just HAVE to talk about how pathetic Changi Airport is. I would think that their services and amenities would be unparalleled (even though i've only been to a handful of airports) since they have consistently touted themselves as being the world's best airport but year after year i have been just as consistently disappointed in it. this includes the new terminal 3 which costs a bomb and is a blatant rip off of hong kong's terminal 2. let me justify myself. what exactly is so lousy about Singapore's Changi Airport?

1) i've said this year on year and i still havent seen any significant improvements to the automated passageway. although there are more people using it now and the whole machine is given a facelift, it's fundamentals remain amateurish and laughable. if we're going into the digital age then we should have something less cumbersome than a passport to scan. also... i'm pretty sure there are MUCH more efficient and advanced fingerprint scanning technology available in the world. why is it that year after year... i, and some others as i have observed, still FAIL to successfully scan my fingerprint with one try and as a result, am forced to go BACK to the immigration officer for him to do things the old fashioned way? and how do i know that this system is completely primitive and there are much better systems in the world? because hong kong does it a million times better. they use smart ICs instead of bulky flippy passports. their gantries are amazingly streamlined and futuristic (so much for the facelift Changi). and most importantly... their fingerprint scanning is INFINITELY more efficient that singapore's. let's see. i've been giving singapore's automated passageways plenty of chances to prove itself from it's inception. but out of the 4 times i used it (within 3 years), NONE of it worked. however, it has worked EVERY single time when i used the hong kong automated passageway. the difference is so obvious even the blind can see it because in hong kong, there is NO queue for HK citizens going through customs whereas in singapore... there is... abt a 15-25 minute queue. that is 15-25 minutes more. efficient? nope. delays? you betcha. i have no idea what singapore is trying to achieve. if they are trying to copy hong kong... then at least do yourself justice by making IMPROVEMENTS instead of settling for LOUSIER versions. honestly. being completely objective, i would definitely say that Changi Airport is indeed one of the best airports in the world. i'm sure there are airports which are WAY worse.... but if Changi Airport is the world's first airport... what does that make Hong Kong's International Airport?

2) my dear sister decided that she wanted to sprain her ankle mere hours before our flight back to singapore. so obviously we requested for assistance from the ground crew at the airport. like... getting her on the wheelchair and having our luggage handled by the staff instead of lugging it around ourselves because our luggage is insanely heavy and i admit... i'm NOT able to handle them on my own. so in HK... we were given special access... as with the other wheelchair bound people. we used the aircrew entrance and basically... we didnt even need to do a single thing aside from the security checks to get past customs. i.e: no queue, no bullshit. of course.. being troublesome as i am... i just had to wear jeans and a belt that sends the metal detector beeping... so that's my fault. anyway, the nice woman who was pushing my sister did everything for us.. all the way till she reached the door of the plane. it was interesting cuz everytime she reached somewhere i hear someone announce her arrival on the walkie talkie. it's hilarious. now now.. this was about how BAD singapore airport is right? yes. sooo... when we arrived, we had to go and look for a guy with a wheelchair who doesnt seem to care than a severely overweight girl is limping sadly along the pathway until i asked him if he's here for my sister. then after my sis got onto the wheelchair... he pushed her at a glacial pace to the customs which is.. very far away. i was actually bored walking there cuz he's so slow. and now comes the immigration. AGAIN. as i mentioned in HK, we were given the special pathway cuz of her wheelchair bound status.. but in singapore.... we queued up like everybody else. and the infuriating thing is...... the other wheelchair person got to use the special line for aircrew. just cuz the other woman is ancient doesnt mean she can get special treatment and we cant. anyway. queuing for 15-25 mins is one thing. the AIRCON IS SO NOT WORKING. i was perspiring from just standing. anyway, the thing is... when my sis was clearing the customs, the gap between the counter is just way too small to fit the wide wheelchair... so she had to GET UP.. and LIMP out.. and THEN sit back down on the wheelchair because the person had to make the wheelchair more compact and push it out. my question is... what is the person is totally incapicitated? is he/she supposed to get out and CRAWL out from the counter? what the....... but i shall be objective.... yes. even though the service in singapore airport is FAR worse than in HK... one redeeming thing that the guy did was that he picked up all our stuff from the carousel while i was buying beer. that's good.

ok. i'm too lazy to talk about other stuff like the bloody insane weather. isnt this supposed to be the cool season? it's boiling. gosh. i really hate this god damned country.
